Umbrella Accessories
Patio umbrella accessories are what hold an umbrella in place and make it more useful once it's up, from bases and in ground mounts to clip on lights and rain gutters. Several are built around a pole size or a specific umbrella, so check what you own before you pick one.

The base is what keeps an umbrella upright when the wind picks up. Depending on the model, that weight comes from steel plates, concrete, or sand or water you add yourself, and some bases roll on wheels so you can move the shade as the day goes on. If a base is all you need, umbrella bases and stands has them on their own page. Some patio umbrella accessories are made for one maker's umbrellas, like Shadowspec's rain gutters, which connect two or more of its cantilever umbrellas, or a Current Luxury table that attaches to the pole of a Helux umbrella.

Umbrella Sleeves for Concrete and In Ground Mounts
An in ground umbrella mount goes into the deck itself, so there's no base sitting on the surface. Ledge Lounger's mount, for example, is a two piece design with a removable stem, made for permanent installation in concrete, soil or clay, and it takes center pole umbrellas with 1.5 or 2 inch poles.
Patio Umbrella Lights
A clip on umbrella light attaches under the canopy, and some clip right onto the ribs. The Ledge Lounger light is one example: it recharges over USB-C, runs up to 28 hours on a charge and has motion and light sensors. If you're shopping for a new umbrella anyway, look at umbrellas with lights instead.
Patio Umbrella Covers
A patio umbrella cover goes over the closed canopy to protect it from weather and UV between uses. Covers are cut for a style, like market, tilt or cantilever, and they come in sizes, so check your umbrella's size before you order one.
Frequently asked questions about patio umbrella accessories
Should you cover your outdoor umbrella?
Yes, if the umbrella stays outside. A cover keeps weather and UV off the canopy while it's closed, so it's worth getting one cut for your umbrella's style and size.
How do you add lights to a patio umbrella?
The simplest way is a clip on light that hangs from the ribs under the canopy. A rechargeable one needs no wiring at all.
What can I use instead of an umbrella base?
An in ground mount, which leaves no base on the deck at all. And almost all in pool umbrellas ship without a base, because they go into a sleeve built into the sun shelf. Heavier in pool side tables built to carry an umbrella can hold one too, but the light ones made to move in and out of the water can't.
How do I keep a patio umbrella from tipping over?
Use a base heavy enough for the umbrella's size and the wind where it sits. Some bases take stackable steel plates, sold separately, so you can go heavier for a bigger canopy or a windier spot. If you want it fixed for good, an in ground mount holds the pole in the ground instead.
Are all umbrella bases the same size?
No. Some bases built for 1.5 inch poles can't take a 2 inch pole, which needs a heavier base. So check your umbrella's pole diameter before you buy.
