Wall Mounted Umbrellas
A wall mounted umbrella hangs its shade off the house or a garden wall, so there's no base or pole taking up floor space. That leaves a narrow deck, a courtyard or the patio at your rental free for chairs and tables. Pick a model built just for the wall, or a cantilever that mounts to one with a bracket.
A wall mounted patio umbrella gives your floor back to the furniture
A freestanding umbrella needs a heavy base, and on a tight patio that base sits right where a chair should go. With the anchor on the wall, the canopy reaches out over the space and the floor stays open. Since it lives outside all year, look for an aluminum frame with stainless hardware and a solution dyed acrylic canopy that holds its color.

Two ways to get a wall mounted cantilever umbrella
Some umbrellas are built only for the wall, like the Retreat, whose arm reaches 10'1" out, rotates 45° and tilts 16° forward for low sun. Others are standard cantilevers with a wall bracket as one mounting option, like the Serenity and Unity Duo Square. For ground mounts, see all cantilever umbrellas.
Sizing a large wall mounted umbrella
The Retreat comes in one canopy size, a 9' hexagon. A cantilever on a wall bracket gives you more sizes to choose from, like the Serenity in 8' or 10' square and 11' or 13' octagon. A two canopy model like the Unity Duo Square hangs both canopies off one mast, and three and four canopy setups are in multi canopy umbrellas.
What a wall mount umbrella needs from your wall
The Retreat is made for brick, concrete and solid timber walls, and its top wall bracket and bottom catch bracket come in the box. The Serenity and Unity Duo Square use a wall mount bracket instead, made from the same marine grade stainless steel as their other mounts. Without a solid wall, a cantilever on a weighted base or in ground mount covers the same spot.
Frequently asked questions about wall mounted umbrellas
How do you hang an umbrella on the wall?
A bracket gets fixed to the wall and the umbrella mounts to it. On the Serenity, for example, you secure the wall mount and slide the umbrella onto its spigot, and it arrives preassembled in one box. So the bigger decision is basically where it goes, since that decides where the shade lands.
What is the best wall mounted umbrella?
It's the one that fits the area you need shaded and the wall you're mounting it on. So measure the space first and match it to a canopy size. And our Shadowspec umbrella review compares the models it covers side by side.
Can you get a wall mount umbrella with lights?
Yes, lighting is available on the Serenity and Unity Duo Square. The LEDs are built into the hub, but they need the optional Shadowspec Smart Battery pack to work, so add it to the order if you want light after dark. The Retreat doesn't offer lighting.
How much does a wall mounted umbrella cost?
Size and fabric move the price. On the Serenity, for example, the 10' square costs more than the 8', and the special order canopy colors cost extra over the standard ones. The exact price for each size and color shows when you pick it on the product page.
Can a wall mounted umbrella handle wind?
It depends on the umbrella's wind rating, so check it before you buy. Shadowspec, for example, rates its umbrellas for Beaufort 5 (19 to 24 mph) when properly anchored.
