Warranty Information

Shadowspec guarantees that Shadowspec Umbrellas, that are installed in accordance with our guidelines, will be free of defects in materials and workmanship for the period of time as set out and specified below:

Shadowspec Serenity™

  • Umbrella Fabric: 10 years warranty for residential use, 3 years for commercial use
  • Umbrella Frame: 6 years warranty for residential use, 3 years for commercial use
  • Protection Cover: 3 years warranty

Shadowspec Unity™

  • Umbrella Fabric: 10 years warranty for residential use, 3 years for commercial use
  • Umbrella Frame: 6 years warranty for residential use, 3 years for commercial use
  • Protection Cover: 3 years warranty

Shadowspec Retreat™

  • Umbrella Fabric: 3 years warranty for residential use, 1 year for commercial use
  • Umbrella Frame: 3 years warranty for residential use, 1 year for commercial use
  • Protection Cover: 1 year warranty

*The Fabric Warranty Relates to the Umbrella Canopy. **Protection Covers have a separate warranty. Protection Covers are optional on nominal products. Residential and commercial warranties are separate as per the table above. All optional accessories have a 1-year warranty including but not limited to: Raingutters, Drop Blinds, Smart Batteries, Hard-wire Kits and Castor Wheels. Mounting options are included in the frame warranty. Time periods are applied from the date of the invoice.

The obligation of Shadowspec under this warranty is limited to faulty manufacturing, defective materials and mechanical failure when your umbrella has been used and cared for appropriately from the date of invoice. If an umbrella is repaired under warranty, the warranty period will not be
extended. Shadowspec shall, at its sole discretion, determine whether repair or replacement is appropriate.

This warranty does not cover the following:

  • Damage caused by an accident, negligence, storm, wind, accumulation of water or snow, or caused by an act of God, incorrect installation, not following Shadowspec’s Care and Maintenance instructions, incorrect use or natural ageing and fading
  • Damage caused by exposure to hazardous atmospheric situations due to industry or a high salt level
  • Small colour variations between the fabric and the colour samples and between the components and profiles, which are caused by the manufacturing process
  • Damage by a third party
  • Repair by a third party, or labour costs

Your Shadowspec Umbrella is designed to handle conditions in which people are comfortable relaxing outdoors, and more. This warranty doesn’t protect against your umbrella Fabric Canopy becoming unserviceable due to strength loss from normal usage and exposure conditions. The foregoing sets out the extent of this warranty.

Shadowspec (Unicrest Group Ltd) shall not otherwise be liable or responsible for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damage, costs or losses of any kind arising out of or in connection with your umbrella or components or for any delay by Shadowspec or the component manufacturer in undertaking repairs or replacement under this warranty. Except as expressly provided herein, all other warranties, representations, conditions, undertakings, rights, duties or liabilities, whether arising by implication of law or otherwise, are hereby expressly excluded.

Outdoor umbrellas face constant exposure to elements and weather conditions. Follow these maintenance tips to maximize the durability of your investment:

  • Regularly remove loose debris such as dirt and fallen leaves from the umbrella canopy.
  • For seasonal storage (particularly winter months), place your umbrella in a dry, wind-protected area. Ensure the canopy is completely dry before storage to prevent mold and mildew development. Store in an upright position to protect the fabric from pest damage.
  • While the premium acrylic fabric in your Shadowspec Umbrella has built-in mildew resistance, occasional deep cleaning may be necessary for stubborn stains from bird droppings, pollen, or environmental dirt.
Deep Cleaning Process

For stubborn stains or mild mildew:

  1. Create a cleaning solution using:
    - 8 oz of bleach
    - 2 oz of mildew-specific soap
    - 4 liters of clean water
  2. Apply solution to the affected area and allow it to penetrate the fabric.
  3. Gently scrub using a soft-bristled brush.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  5. Let the fabric air dry completely.

Important: Before applying this cleaning solution to the entire canopy, test on a small, inconspicuous area first. For severe staining, the bleach quantity may be increased cautiously. This solution is formulated for high-quality acrylic fabrics like those used in Shadowspec umbrellas. Using it on different or lower-quality fabrics may cause damage. When in doubt, contact our support team for specific recommendations.

1. What are the mounting options?

We understand that every outdoor space is unique, so we provide several mounting solutions for our umbrellas:

Free-standing Base
Available for most umbrella models, this portable option allows you to reposition your shade throughout the day as the sun moves.

Pro tip: Select free-standing base models can be upgraded with heavy-duty castor wheels for improved mobility and swivel functionality.

Wall Mount
Available for the Retreat™, Shadowspec Unity™, and Shadowspec Serenity™ models. This option attaches to existing walls or structures without compromising waterproof membranes on rooftops or balconies.

Important: Ensure your mounting point is supported by a sturdy wall or pillar. We recommend consulting a builder if you have any concerns about structural support.

In-ground Anchor
Ideal for new construction or areas where you can excavate to cement the anchor in place. Some models include rotation capabilities with this mounting option.

Pro tip: When ordering with an in-ground anchor, we'll provide detailed instructions for hole preparation and concrete specifications so you can prepare your site in advance.

Surface Plate
Perfect for securing to decks, concrete surfaces, or patios. Simply bolt the plate to your surface and attach your umbrella spigot.

Note: Surface plates require specific bolts and support depending on location. Consult with our shade specialists when ordering to ensure proper installation.

2. Who can install my umbrella?

You can install your Shadowspec Umbrella in as little as 20 minutes by following the installation manual.

3. What pavers do I need for the free-standing base?

For Shadowspec Serenity™ and Shadowspec Unity™:
You'll need 12 pavers measuring 400mm x 400mm x 40mm (or 16" x 16" x 1.6"), available at major building supply retailers like Home Depot or Bunnings.

Important: Using fewer than the specified 12 pavers will invalidate your warranty coverage.

4. Do I need a protection cover?

Yes, we strongly recommend using the Protection Cover whenever your umbrella isn't in use. Most Shadowspec Umbrellas include Protection Covers as standard equipment because they significantly extend the lifespan of your investment.

Speak with our shade consultants about protection cover options if one isn't included with your specific model.

5. What is the wind rating on my umbrella?

Wind resistance is an important factor for any outdoor umbrella.

Our umbrellas are rated to Beaufort 5, which equates to winds of 29-38 kph (19-24 mph). For perspective, a 35 kph (21 mph) wind is strong enough to tip over a full wine glass and pull a newspaper from your grasp.

A good rule of thumb: if weather conditions feel uncomfortable for you to be outside, it's time to close your Shadowspec umbrella, secure it with the protection cover, and head indoors.

Finally an umbrella that actually lasts

We needed an upgrade from our old outdoor umbrella after 3 years. Bit the bullet and spent the money on a Unity Duo. It's been through a Minnesota winter now and still looks brand new. Better than expected

Took a chance on these after seeing them at a resort in Hawaii.
