Frequently Asked Questions
Can the 36" Orion V2 fit into an existing wood-burning or gas fireplace opening?
Yes. The 36" V2 Traditional works as either a flush built-in or a slide-in insert. Your existing opening needs to be at least 32-5/8" wide, 23-7/8" tall, and 10" deep. If there's a gap between the unit and the masonry, optional surround trim kits (sold separately in 4" and 6" widths) cover it cleanly.
Does this fireplace need a gas line, venting, or chimney?
None of the above. The Orion V2 Traditional is 100% electric — no gas line, no venting, no chimney required. It plugs into a dedicated 120V circuit for 5,000 BTU output, or hardwires to a dedicated 240V, 20-amp circuit to reach 8,300 BTU. Your electrician handles the hookup; no other contractor is needed.
How do I control the flame styles, colors, and heat?
Three ways: the built-in touch panel on the unit, the included remote control, or the Modern Flames + app on your phone or tablet via WiFi. The app also receives over-the-air flame style updates, so new display options are added to your fireplace without any hardware changes.
What's the difference between the Orion Traditional and the linear models?
The Traditional has a tall, vertical viewing area (up to 30 inches high) built for conventional fireplace openings and traditional mantel surrounds. The linear models — the Multi and the Slim — are wider and shorter, designed for feature walls and modern installations. They serve completely different architectural situations and don't compete with each other.
Can I run the flames without activating the heater?
Yes. The heater operates independently from the flame display. You can run the flames, downlighting, ember bed, and crackling sounds at any time without turning the heater on — useful during warmer months or in climate-controlled commercial spaces where you want the ambiance without the heat output.
Is the V2 a drop-in replacement for the original Orion Traditional V1?
Yes. The V2 Traditional shares identical physical dimensions and framing requirements with the V1, so it fits any space that was already framed or cut for the original. The upgrade to the V2 is entirely internal — better LCD screens, adaptive brightness, OTA updates, and improved speakers — with no changes to the opening dimensions or electrical requirements.
