TenJam vs Ledge Lounger: Which In Pool Lounger Fits Your Pool

TenJam and Ledge Lounger keep a lounger on the sun shelf in two different ways. Ledge Lounger's Signature Chaise and Signature Chaise Deep fill with pool water through plugs on the bottom, and the plugs go back in to seal the water inside. For deeper water, Ledge Lounger points you to the Deep, and past 15 inches to the Deep Riser.

TenJam's Shayz and Laylo fill with pool water through holes in the base, and the water drains back out through them when you lift the lounger. They adapt to deeper water with risers, and the Laylo also takes weights.

Which one fits your pool comes down to your water depth, how often the loungers come out of the pool, and how wide your shelf is. We carry both TenJam and Ledge Lounger as an authorized dealer. You'll find both brands side by side in our in pool furniture collection.

What Is the Difference Between TenJam and Ledge Lounger?

The biggest difference is what happens to the water. Ledge Lounger's two chaises hold the water they take on, sealed in by their plugs. On the Shayz and Laylo, pool water comes in through holes in the base and drains out when you lift them.

The second difference is how each brand handles deeper water. Ledge Lounger makes a separate model for it, the Signature Chaise Deep. TenJam keeps the same lounger and adds risers, plus weights on the Laylo.

Here are the four loungers side by side.

How Does Each One Stay in Place on the Sun Shelf?

All four loungers fill with pool water. The difference is whether that water stays sealed inside.

To fill a Signature Chaise, Ledge Lounger says to remove the plugs on the bottom, submerge the chaise in the pool, and then replace the plugs to seal the water inside. The Signature Chaise Deep fills the same way.

The Shayz fills with pool water through holes in its base and has a drainage hole at its lowest point. TenJam calls this its Speed Fill Ballast System. The Laylo has open drain holes throughout its base, and TenJam's optional 4 lb coated lead weights insert into its backrest and leg rest to keep it settled in deeper water.

Two questions come up most in our customer mail about in pool loungers: a lounger floating or drifting, and which riser fits the water depth. Both manufacturers tie floating to water depth. Ledge Lounger says the Signature Chaise may drift, float or bob in water deeper than 9 inches. On a Laylo with no risers, TenJam says smaller and lighter people may feel they float above the seat past 13 inches, and suggests adding weight to the backrest and leg rest.

Which One Works in Deeper Water?

Start with your water depth on the shelf. Our in pool chaise lounger guide covers how to measure it. Then match it to each lounger's range:

  • Signature Chaise: up to 9 inches. Above that, Ledge Lounger recommends the Deep.
  • Signature Chaise Deep: up to 15 inches. For more than 15, Ledge Lounger recommends its Signature Chaise Deep Riser.
  • Shayz: 5 inches with no risers. The 4, 8 and 12 inch risers take it to 9, 13 and 17 inches, and TenJam says they don't change the seat angle.
  • Laylo: 8 inches with no risers or weights. With weights, TenJam lists up to 18 inches on the 4 inch risers and 22 inches on the 8 inch risers.

With TenJam, you match a riser to your depth, and on the Laylo a number of weights too. Our TenJam riser and weight guide lays out each setup and the fix for a lounger that floats.

Which Is Easier to Take Out of the Pool?

Full of water, the Signature Chaise weighs 144 lbs and the Deep weighs 270 lbs, per Ledge Lounger, with that water sealed in by the plugs.

TenJam gives empty weights instead: 34 lbs for the Shayz and 31 lbs for the Laylo. Both drain through holes in the base as you lift them out. TenJam says one person can move the Laylo.

How Do the Warranties Compare?

Ledge Lounger warrants the Signature Chaise not to splinter, crack, chip, peel or rot for 15 years for residential use and 10 years for commercial use. TenJam gives the Shayz a 5 year warranty covering manufacturing and material defects.

The two warranties are worded differently, so read the terms for the exact model you buy.

Which Should You Choose?

Your water depth. At 9 inches of water, all four loungers here have a setup that fits. Past that, match your depth to the ranges above.

How often the loungers come out. If they'll come out for a pool cover or cleaning, weigh Ledge Lounger's full weights of 144 and 270 lbs against TenJam's empty weights of 34 and 31 lbs and its drain holes.

Your shelf width. The Laylo is 22.75 inches wide and both Ledge Lounger chaises are 23 inches. The Shayz is 34 inches wide, and TenJam says not every sun shelf is wide enough for it.

How you like to sit. TenJam says the Shayz sits more upright than its competitors, with armrests and a built in cupholder.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to fill your Ledge Lounger?

Ledge Lounger's instructions for the Signature Chaise are to remove the plugs on the bottom of the chaise, submerge it in the pool, and then replace the plugs to seal the water inside. The Signature Chaise Deep fills the same way.

Why is my in pool lounger floating or drifting?

Check your water depth against the lounger's range first. Ledge Lounger says the Signature Chaise may drift, float or bob in water deeper than 9 inches. On a TenJam Laylo with no risers, TenJam says smaller and lighter people may feel they float above the seat past 13 inches, and suggests adding weight to the backrest and leg rest. Our TenJam risers and weights guide walks through each setup.

Which one fits a narrow sun shelf?

By width, the Laylo is 22.75 inches, the Signature Chaise and Signature Chaise Deep are 23 inches each, and the Shayz is 34 inches. TenJam says not every sun shelf is wide enough for the Shayz, and offers the Laylo as its standard width lounger.
